About the author: Sulayman Kadir was born in Cheraw, South Carolina, he has spent all his life on the east coast. After graduation from high school in 1989 a tour of duty in the US Army sent him to Germany, the Persian Gulf, and Ft. Bragg North Carolina.

He studied History and Political Science at the University of North Carolina Pembroke, where he and his wife, a Gulf War veteran also, first met. The pair later married in June 2000. With their four boys they currently live in Charlotte, North Carolina where Sulayman works as a school administrator.

About the illustrator: Evelyn Worth Kadir was born in Laurinburg, NC. She has dreamed of becoming an illustrator since the age of 5 and art has always been her passion. After serving in the US Army and returning from the Gulf War she attained her Bachelor of Arts in 1998 at UNC at Pembroke and began her career as an Art Educator in 1999.

She was an Art Educator for 12 years in the public school system of NC. Evelyn is now retired and continues to create her personal art and illustrating. She regained an interest in illustrating when her husband, Sulayman, pitched the idea of collaborating on a children’s book.
